About Balcony Bloom
Practical container gardening advice, written for people without a garden.
Why this site exists
Most gardening advice assumes a garden bed. It recommends spacing in rows, crop rotation across metres, and soil improvement over years. None of that translates to six pots on a fourth-floor balcony, where the real constraints are container volume, wind, load limits and how often you can realistically water.
Balcony Bloom exists to answer the narrower question properly: what actually works in containers, in small spaces, for people who cannot spend an hour a day on it. Every guide includes concrete figures — litres of container, centimetres of depth, days to harvest, temperature thresholds — rather than adjectives.
Who writes it
Nathan Cole has spent eight years growing vegetables, herbs and flowers on a 4 m² city balcony and a south-facing windowsill. He tests every method he writes about in real containers and shares the measurements, schedules and failures that come out of it, rather than general advice.

Editorial approach
Recommendations on this site come from hands-on growing and from published horticultural research. Where advice depends on climate, we say so and give the ranges. We do not accept payment for product recommendations, and we do not publish sponsored articles.
